Our Summer Camps:

Swords at Summer CampWhile summers are a nice break from the snow and most Minnesotans are soaking it in as much as possible, they also can get long, and trying to find something to do for those 3 months and keep the kids busy is hard. Also, for all of those full time working parents, summer also brings up the problem of care for all the younger children out there that still aren't old enough to take care of themselves.

In order to fill this gap in the year, the Tomorrow's Leading Knights program at the Hwa Rang Do Martial Art Academy is stepping up and providing an alternative that will blow you away. We will be continuing the productive lessons and training that is offered throughout the school year, but expand the hours to help you fill the day with quality experience for your child. Also, because of all the dedicated training time the kids are sure to improve in their martial art practice considerably as we will be working on belt curriculum plus a lot of detail on a focus topic each session.

Summer Camp 1: Sparring & Leadership
June 11th - 15th

The Training Focus for this session is Sparring and the ability to move effectively, create openings for points, plus counter! The Character Focus will be on Leadership and how to use one's character to influence positive action starting from truth and goodness.

Summer Camp 2: Grappling & Virtue
June 25th - 29th

The Training Focus for this session is Grappling and how to control and escape from the ground. We will cover a number of drills and movements to improve leverage, hip movement, and takedowns (with advanced students moving into the submission game). The Character Focus will be on Virtue as positive integrity is one of those essentials that aims the direction of the path one walks!

Summer Camp 3: Weaponry & Arts
July 9th - 13th

The Training Focus for this session is Weaponry. We will spend time working on the weapons that each student uses for their belt material nunchucks, long staff, and sword, and also get some time doing some actual matching with foam sword fighting. Our Humanities projects will be related to art and expressing meaning through different medias and vehicles. Art is art no matter how it is expressed - so time to get the creative juices flowing!

Summer Camp 4: Acrobatics & Sciences
July 23rd - 27th

The Training Focus for this session is Acrobatics. We will start with some fundamentals of gymnastics with rolls, cartwheels, and move to advanced concepts with the kids that progress to handsprings and maybe even some flips! We will also do some obstacle jumping with parkour & free-running for fun! Our other activities will be related to Science, so get ready for some cool experiments.

Summer Camp 5: Complete Training & Service
August 6th - 10th

The Training Focus for this session will be on the mastery of movement through any of Hwa Rang Do's many possibilities. We will spend time on each of our areas of study to be as complete a martial artist as possible! The Character Focus will be on Service and discovering how much bigger the world is than any one individual - yet real change and improvement can only happen one person at a time, moment by moment.

Special Notes:

  • While we will study all aspects of the martial arts and belt material during each camp, we will also develop a primary focus area for the sessions so that the kids can get some quality drill & detail time in on the "Focus" topics, as this will greatly increase their overall skill in this area.

  • These camps are open to all ages of children ages 5 and up. Our "sunbae" (older higher ranking students) will also be helping not as "counselors" but as leaders, assistants, and helpers for training and group activities, so that they can build their leadership skills and sense of responsibility.

  • Our camps are open to the anyone in the public as well as our regular students. (If not a current student or new to our program, we will have uniforms and other equipment available for purchase)

  • Early drop off/late pickup is available for $7.50 per hour before 9am and after 5pm.
